We have all been stuck at home for the past few months due to the Covid-19 pandemic. I like many people have started watching more films and series throughout this time. In this blog post I want to share some things that I have been watching and why I think you should watch them too.
On the 30th of May 2020 NASA and SpaceX launched two astronauts to space. This might not seem like a big deal, but it is the first time since the retirement of the space shuttle in 2011 that humans are flying to the space station from U.S. soil (Launch America, 2020). What I personally found amazing is the fact that we are able to watch a HD live stream of the launch of the spaceship. They have cameras all over the spaceship and you were able to watch and hear the astronauts as they were leaving our planet. NASA has continued to do live streams of the astronauts now that they are on their way to the International Space Station.
As for the more traditional things that I have been watching. I was one of the victims of the ”Tiger King” craze. It got recommended to me in a live stream, and I decided to give it a try. I ended up watching the entire show in one night because it just kept getting crazier, the conspiracy theories, the situation that kept happening it was all so insane. It is really a view into the mindset of a certain type of person. All the people in the documentary feel like the extremes of the weird people you can imagine. You have this gay, hillbilly, musician zoo owner who is married to multiple man who are clearly not gay. A sanctuary owner whose husband disappeared one night and she is clearly has suspicious motivations. And then there is just a cast of other tiger owners who are just all extremely weird and they seem almost fake.
One more show that I have been watching is Fargo, the series is based of a film with the same name by the Coen brothers. I watched the first season when it originally launched back in 2014, the first season had me excited instantly and I just kept on watching. The first season has some incredible acting by Billy Bob Thornton. He plays a murder for hire who just seems to kill for pleasure, when he meets Lester (Martin Freeman) in a hospital they have what seems to be a weird but innocent conversation, the whole time that Lorne Malvo (Billy Bob Thornton) is talking you get the feeling he has multiple goals that we are unaware of. The story continues to evolve into a story with incredibly nuanced layers, with its focus on the relationship between people and the importance of dialog between people.
During the lockdown I expect to keep watching more series and films and I will keep you up to date on what I have been watching.
