Learning Plan

This blog is about my further professional development and the three core things that I’ve to work on in the after college.

Objectives

The main thing I want to learn in the future is Adobe After Effects. I’ve done courses in the past with this program as one of the main factors. But the program has always been a problem for me to master which is frustrating because it’s one of the most important program for post-production. I will achieve this objective by doing self studies, such as tutorials from YouTube and Adobe (After Effects tutorials | Learn how to use After Effects, n.d.) itself or getting help from others within the professional industry.

I also want to develop my practical experience in film. Due to the fact that most of my time in film has been spend in school I’ve not been able to gather the practical field experience I would like to have. Practical experience is one of the most important things to add to your resume in the film industry, this is because the only way to judge someones skill is to judge the results they have achieved. To get the experience that I want I will have to use my existing network to get jobs and get information about project that are hiring.

Lastly one thing I will have to improve is my network, this one goes hand in hand with the last one. The better your network the more job opportunities you get. The more jobs you do the more industry people you will get to know. So it is of utmost importance to have a good network. I will extend my network by using the people currently in my network and by going to film festivals. These events are useful to broaden your network and are one of the most important tools you have available to you (Veenker, 2013).

Strengths and weaknesses.

Strengths: One of the strengths is that all these objectives are dependent on the amount of effort you put into it. If I wanted to I could focus pure on After Effects for two weeks and I’ll be up to date with the industry standard. And if you show that you want to do more jobs and actively show the efforts you put in people will notice this and it will give you a leg up on others in the industry.

Another strength is for objective 1 and 3 is that it has quick results. These results will motivate you to push harder and this motivation will help you with the second objective.

Weakness: The main weakness for me is also that it is very dependent on the effort you put in. Because I’ve had problems with motivation in the past it could be hard for me to push myself to actively work on these objectives. The way to prevent this is the short term improvement I could see which should motivate me to push through.

The learning plan

How will you keep yourself accountable?

To keep myself accountable I’ll will have to be dependent on planning. This gives me opportunity to add structure to my objective and have a set weekly schedule which I can use to reflect on my progress.

How much will you review this plan?

In the first stage of this plan I will review it once a week to see the immediate progression that is being achieved. In later stages of the plan I’ll review on the plan itself less because the results should be enough proof of the plans progression.

Will you use tools to keep yourself on track?

My main tool will be a agenda in which I can write all my appointments but also use to make a weekly schedule for myself. I also have a notebook which I use to make notes on how a day went and what I could improve.

Will you book regular tutorials as an incentive to stick to your plan?

I don’t see the need for tutorials with this plan, because if executed well I should be independent enough to see the progress and adjust when needed.
